I've gotten really into Magic the Gathering

Posted by chesster415 - September 10th, 2010

I might not be doing anything for a while. I've been playing a lot of Magic the Gathering. Let me know any good cards or combos you guys know of.

I quit a while ago. Some of the best and worst years of my life :)

I never used to play until my cousin got me into it. Then I had to find my old cards and come up with a way to beat his infinite snake token combo in his Orochi based deck. What I came up with was an Ironfist Crusher + Sandskin combo with flying creatures for attacking. I haven't had a chance to try it out though, last time I saw him he was wrapped up in some Final Fantasy game on his PSP. But I've been getting new cards and working on better combos, and getting other friends into it too. Our local Fred Meyer is actually stocking more Magic cards now. I'll still work on stuff from time to time but it might take me a while to post anything. Hopefully I won't become too obsessive, this could get to be an expensive habit.

Platinum Angel

Yeah that can be really useful, there are lots of ways to beat a Platinum Angel though. If you depend on it too much, any control deck that turns it against you is bad news.

Put the platinum angel in your side deck, then.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea, then if you know opponent can't take control of it you can put it in there as a trump card.

And speaking of an infinite snake token combo, my cousin has a kickass squirrel token deck. Squirrel nest + squirrel token spells + Parallel Evolution + Mirari.

That would take a lot of mana. I've got a Mana Reflection + Umbral Mantle + Greenweaver druid/Fyndhorn Elder or any creature with a tap:generate 2 mana ability combo for infinite mana and a whopper or a creature, that could go good with that.

By the time he has enough mana to start playing Parallel Evolution and Mirari's ability at the same time, he'd already have about 30 squirrels.

Also, here's a combo I just came up with:

turn 1: play Panoptic Mirror
turn 2 (or turn 1, if you actually have that big of a mana pool): imprint Time Stretch
turn 3: infinite turns

It's expensive and easily countered, though (I never freaking plan for those annoying disruption decks). Also, you'll need some sort of permanent that makes it so you don't have to draw cards. But if it works, you can start spamming things like Souleater or Wormfang Manta.

Excuse me, I meant "Eater of Souls", not "Souleater".

Yeah, but a Time Vault + Voltaic Key combo is a lot better for infinite turns. You might not have to stop yourself from drawing, but I've got Obstinate Familiar that could do just that. If you use a few Quest for Ancient Secrets to keep shuffling your graveyard into your library you could go on forever. Here's an interesting combo I thought of earlier today when I saw Gelatinous Genesis in the Oracle:

Turn 1: Forest, Llanowar Elf/Arbor Elf
Turn 2: any Basic Land, Viridian Joiner
Turn 3: Umbral Mantle
Turn 4: Gelatinous Genesis

Tap your Forest to play your elf. Get another land out to play Viridian Joiner. Put out Umbral Mantle and Equip to the Joiner. Tap the Joiner and then the two lands to untap the Joiner, repeat until mana reaches absurd levels, then cast Gelatinous Genesis. If you draw the right cards you could have an infinite number of infinitly powerful creatures by turn four.

EDIT: or

Turn 1: Forest, Llanowar Elf/Arbor Elf
Turn 2: any Basic Land, Viridian Joiner
Turn 3: Giant Growth, Umbral Mantle, Gelatinous Genesis
